The Layer2 Illusion: Why On-Chain Data Shows We're Scaling Fragmentation, Not Throughput

But here's the anomaly that breaks the narrative: daily active addresses across all L2s combined still sit at 450,000. Ethereum mainnet itself handled 1.2 million daily active addresses during the 2021 peak. We didn't scale the user base. We multiplied the infrastructure. Now compare to Ethereum mainnet: $450 million. The sum of all L2 liquidity is $260 million, barely 58% of mainnet's single pool. The so-called scaling solution has created five shallow pools instead of one deep ocean.
